Amazing Home-brews and Wines Judged

70 years since the first event, the 35th competition of the NZ Central Region Home-Brewers and Winemakers Clubs was held over the weekend. Judging occurred on Friday with the formal Awards dinner and prize-giving on Saturday 12th October. Entries were down but the standard was high with 109 medals presented from the 188 entries including just 12 Gold, 38 silver and 59 Bronze awards, according to ContestMaster.net, the competition website used to run and manage the Competition.

Members came from throughout the lower half of the north island to be hosted by the Gisborne Winemakers and Homebrewers Club. These Regional Competitions are held every two years alternating with the National Championships.

Chief Judge David Andrew said, “The standard of entries this year was good with very few of low quality.” Head Organiser Mike Zame of Gisborne was pleased with the event and thanked all those who entered and helped with the shows success.
