NATIONAL FEDERATION TROPHIES
The Chairman and executive decided in 2001 to purchase three small trophies with medal inserts to present for the following categories. The Federation paid for the trophies for this competition and it is envisaged they will continue to do the same at each national competition.
- Best Winemaker of the Show
- Best Brewer of the Show
- Best Liqueur Maker of the Show
The basis of these trophies is to acknowledge the skill of the competitors who show
a consistent and high standard of entries over a minimum number of classes in
each competition
Best Winemaker of the Show
- The minimum requirement is one gold medal in three separate classes, with tally of points for the gold medals if more than one meets the above criteria.
- If a situation arises that there is more than one competitor with three gold medals and their points tally is equal, then the competitor with the next,- -highest medal award in another class (not including the classes in which their gold medals counted towards the trophy) will be the winner.
- In the unlikely event of no competitor meeting the minimum requirement of one gold medal in three separate classes the National Executive may waiver this requirement and accept one gold medal in two separate classes plus the next highest medal in another class.
Best Brewer of the Show

Best Liqueur Maker of the Show
- The minimum requirement is an entry in both liqueur classes and one gold medal in either class; plus the highest medal for one entry in the other class.
- If the situation arises that there is more than one competitor with a gold medal and the same medal in the other class, then the gold medal with the highest points is the winner.
- If more than one competitor has equal points for the gold medal then the winner will be decided by the aggregate of the points of the gold medal plus the points of the highest entry in the other class.
In the unlikely event of no competitor meeting the above the National Executive may waiver this requirement and accept a competitor as the winner having one gold medal in a class plus the next highest points awarded for any other entry. If there are two competitors in this situation the competitor with the highest points for the gold medal will be deemed the winner.
In the unlikely event of no competitor meeting all of the above rules for the liqueur class the National Executive may withhold the award.
COMPETITION TROPHIES (engraved by host club – holders return next competition)
1. The DB Trophy for the best beer of the competition.
2. The Wilson Neill Cup for the best wine of the competition.
3. The Ian and Margaret Kirkbride Cup for the best dry white wine of the competition.
- We request the following conditions apply to the Dry White Wine Cup.
- To be presented to the maker of the best Dry White Wine entered for each New Zealand Amateur Winemakers & Brewers National Competition, wherever or whenever held.
- The competing wines may be made of any wholesome ingredients.
- The competing wines may be blended only with another wine made by the same winemaker.

RULES FOR THE CHAIRMAN’S TROPHY (Best Region)
The Chairman’s Trophy is a one litre silver cup presented to the National Federation by V.J. Whyman on his retirement as Chairman of the Federation,
Rules:
- The trophy is to be competed for at National competitions,
- The competition is Regional. However, any one club’s results may be enough to win the trophy,
- It is awarded at the end of the competition to the Region that has won the most Best Of Class Medals accrued across all beer, wine and liqueur classes.
- The trophy shall be awarded to the successful region, Northern, Central or Southern.
- In the event of a tie, the trophy shall be shared.
Note: original rules 2 and 3 amended by remit at 2015 BGM in Hastings, plus deletion of previous rule 4, which necessitated the renumbering of rules 5 and 6, to 4 and 5 above.
